Peanuts were thrown at an African-American camerawoman working for CNN at the Republican National Convention. Two delegates from an undisclosed state shouted “this is how we feed the animals” at the journalist. No one has stepped forward as the assailants, but both Republicans are expected to be Romney’s first and second choices for appointment to the Supreme Court if he is elected.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, whose name is an obvious Lord Voldemort-style word game, previously called Chris Matthews’ assertion that Romney and the Republicans had injected race to the campaign “garbage.” Priebus may have also been calling Matthews himself garbage for working at a network that openly employees blacks and women. Priebus, who, along with Paul Ryan, is a native of Wisconsin, is rumored to have never met a black person, but assures party insiders that they are practitioners of voodoo magic who are too primitive to understand democracy, universally defraud welfare programs to fund their secret mansions and only vote for Democrats because the current president is black.
Paul Ryan also addressed the issue of race during his convention speech, in which he claimed that there were no racial divisions in America before Barack Obama was elected as president.

Obama is rightly alarmed at the prospect of a Republican White House taking America back to some idealized, imaginary “golden age,” which in reality was marked by segregation, inequality, Cold War paranoia, and a lower life expectancy and level of technology than today. Republicans ignore these ills — as well as positives like a top marginal tax rate of over 90 percent — in their vague, simplistic whitewashing of the decade, substituting an anachronistic pastiche of rhetoric and iconography. A good cartoon.
